If you are new to marijuana or live in a state where it isn’t legalized yet you might not be familiar with edibles. Edibles are cannabis-infused food and beverages with a mixture of THC and CBD or purely CBD or THC. If you aren’t the kind of person who likes inhaling smoke because let’s be real, who does? Then marijuana edibles are a great choice. I put together this guide to ensure you have the best possible experience. Think of it as your cheat sheet. Now before you go forth and get high, please consider talking to your doctor first. Mixing medications is never a good idea and being medically safe is number one. Okay, with that out of the way, read on.
Start Low, Go Slow
Marijuana edibles are a commitment. Begin with a very lose dose less than 5mg if you have never consumed cannabis before. Then take notes to track your body’s response. Do you have sweaty palms, is your heart racing and or are you comfortable as can be? Once you are aware of how you react, then I would up your dosage, stay with the same MG and or try a different strain. Indica is a downer and more of a body high while Sativa is a head high. Figure out how you want to spend your next 4 hours – glued to the couch or cleaning the entire apartment.
Check the Label
Checking the labels of a marijuana edible will tell you a lot about what kind of high you are in for. Look for the cannabinoid ratio aka 10mg THC + 1mg CBD -à 10:1 ratio, type of extraction used and what strain.
If you are eating a marijuana edible with high fat content then it’s going to take longer to pass through the liver and the effects will be prolonged. It’s the opposite though if you eat an edible with a high amount of sugar content. We are talking a 6-hour experience vs a 4-hour experience. So, with that said, plan ahead, considering the fact that it also takes about 2 hours before the high kicks in.
As Does Setting and Mood
Look I’m going to be upfront with you. If you are in a bad place emotionally, then marijuana edibles have the possibility of amplifying it. Same goes if you are in your friend’s shitty apartment, it will feel as if you are in a damp basemen with no escape. Trust me, I have been there. Go somewhere that gives you peace, slip on a pair of comfy pants and get centered. Then, pop in an edible and ride the wave.
Managing panic attacks
Panic attacks are a possibility but they are more likely to occur if you jump in feet first without slowly building up your tolerance. If one does occur, then drink plenty of water and avoid any food with high fat content. I’m not sure why you would want to eat but if have to munch on something, then stick to celery and or carrots. AND remember, it will pass. You are not dying. You are fine.
